Wen made the remarks at the three-day UN Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20 summit), which opened Wednesday in Brazil's coastal city of Rio de Janeiro.

To promote sustainable development, we should explore effective models for a green economy, he said.

He said that in the course of growing a green economy, we should create more jobs, alleviate poverty and improve living standards; develop green technologies and create new models of technology transfer.

Wen also said that a fair, just, open and inclusive approach is required to promote sustainable development.

He reiterated China's position on the principles of common but different responsibilities, promoting global sustainable development and ensuring the equal right to development for all countries.

At the meeting, Wen announced that China will contribute $6 million to a United Nations Environment Program trust fund for projects and activities that help developing countries with environmental protection.

He added that China will build a global network for technological cooperation based on the experience gained from pilot programs in various countries to promote sustainable development at the regional level, and make available 200 million yuan for a three-year international cooperation project to help small island countries, least developed countries and African countries tackle climate change.
