Chen Peie, rear, and her grandson, Chen Zhishan, are in class on April 18. "Desk mate grandma" Cheng Peie is a 63-year-old woman who lives with her grandson in Taiyuan, North China's Shanxi province. The 13-year-old Chen Zhishan has epilepsy, and were abandoned by his parents. His mother left when he was 2 years old, and his father seldom visits him because of the illness. Chen Peie began escorting her grandson to school in 2008. She also plays and does physical exercises with him every day. Chen Peie hopes to eventually see her grandson become a college student.
