Donations are up

Chinese organizations are receiving more donations, according to the new "Blue Book for Philanthropy" in Beijing jointly released by the Social Policy Research Center of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and Social Sciences Academic Press.

Chinese organizations received donations totaling 107 billion yuan in 2008 - 3.5 times more than in 2007. Donations from individuals exceeded that of enterprises for the first time, according to the Blue Book.

Charity school

Sichuan Fenfang Chunlei Primary School, a charity school project financed by Finnish organizations, was recently completed.

Located in Guiyuan village in Chengdu, the school can house 250 students. The project was financed by more than 30 companies and 100 individuals with assistance from the China Children and Teenagers' Fund. The project also received support of the Finnish Embassy in Beijing.

Rebuilding museums

Sichuan province signed cooperation agreements with the Macao Foundation to aid in the renovation of Beichuan Qiang Folk Museum in Mianyang city and Sanxingdui Museum in Guanghan city in Sichuan.

The Macao Foundation will invest about 120 million yuan to rebuild the Sanxingdui Museum.

Upon completion, the museum will be one of the nation's more advanced institutions for protecting relics. The foundation will provide 85.88 million yuan toward the reconstruction of Beichuan Qiang Folk Museum.

ChinaCoal donations

The China National Coal Group (ChinaCoal) released its first corporate social responsibility (CSR) report earlier this month.

The ChinaCoal CSR Report 2008 describes the group's charitable and business operations last year.

ChinaCoal guaranteed coal supplies to allay concerns about fuel shortages in its disaster relief work in 2008.

ChinaCoal also reported significant energy savings and reductions in emissions due to its environmental work.
