Charity award
The Bristol-Myers Squibb Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the pharmaceutical giant Bristol-Myers Squibb, received the Outstanding Contribution to China Charity Award for its hepatitis prevention program in Shanghai.
The foundation, in cooperation with the Shanghai Charity Federation, has contributed more than $900,000 to the initiative since 2007.
The funding has allowed the hepatitis prevention program involving education, a consumer hotline and professional training to expand its reach from high-risk populations to the general public.
Cathay Pacific CSR
Cathay Pacific released its corporate social responsibility (CSR) report, titled Continuity and Change.
The airline's report emphasized the importance of CSR to the business success of Cathay Pacific.
"We recognize the value of CSR, not only in terms of being aligned with our core values, but also in helping us become more competitive, efficient and innovative in responding to the challenges of a changing economy," the report stated.
Donations report
Actual donations fell short of promised contributions in June, according to the China Charity and Donation Information Center of the Ministry of Civil Affairs.
The center reported that although 2.959 billion yuan in cash and in-kind donations were promised, the center received only about 915 million yuan - about 30.9 percent of the promised donations.
Liu Youping, vice director of the center, said businesses comprised most of the donors that failed to contribute promised amounts.
Cuisine for a cause
The fifth annual "IHG (Intercontinental Hotels Group) Cuisine for a Cause" culinary skills competition raised more than 450,000 yuan for charity this summer.
The annual competition raises funds to support Project Hope, a charity initiative to build primary schools in rural China.
