CSR award

The A.P. Moller-Maersk Group recently won the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) award at the 2009 Seatrade Asia Awards in Shanghai.

The award recognized the CSR leadership demonstrated by the Denmark-based group in the shipping and transportation sector.

Children insurance

Air China recently donated 600,000 yuan to the China Children and Teenagers' Fund for establishment of an insurance fund for 25,000 rural children in Hebei province.

The insurance package for those children will mainly cover critical diseases, diagnosis and medical treatment.

Expo donation

Cheung Kong (Holdings) Ltd and its subsidy Hutchison jointly donated 100 million yuan to the organizing committee of Shanghai World Expo in June.

The fund is for construction of China Hall at the 2010 World Expo and is the largest single donation for the project so far.

Art for Wenchuan

Heng An Standard Life Insurance has launched a charity campaign to encourage children ages 3 to 12 to draw pictures of quake-hit, but rebuilt, Wenchuan.

The project, which is aimed to encourage children to express care for others, has to date included 30,000 children nationwide. Heng An, together with Scots singer Katie Adams, has also created a bilingual song named "Day by Day" to raise money for the reconstruction of Wenchuan.

Aid to poor youth

Dutch insurer Aegon and its joint venture in China, Aegon-CNOOC Life Insurance, have joined with the Ajax football team to donate 1.2 million yuan to the international charity "Right to Play" to help thousands of poor children in Chinese cities.

The project is designed to improve the health, education and social welfare of underprivileged youth.
