Ruili Border Economic Cooperation Zone was founded in 1992 to promote trade between China and Myanmar, one of the biggest foreign trade partners of Yunnan. The area's import and export trade includes the processing industry, local agriculture and biological resources.
Hekou Border Economic Cooperation Zone was founded in 1993 to boost trade between China and Vietnam through the Yunnan-Vietnam railway, Kunming-Hanoi highway and Red River.
Wanding Economic Cooperation Zone was started in 1992 to improve trade between China and Myanmar, to further develop trade, processing, agriculture and tourism.
