Estee Lauder
La Mer, the premium brand of Estee Lauder Group, has just launched its ocean protection program in China.
The program focuses on prevention and study of red tide, a serious pollution problem in some Chinese ocean areas. In addition to inviting celebrities to inspire the public to pay attention to the environment, the top-level skin care products company donated 300,000 yuan to the School of Environment Sciences and Engineering at the Shanghai Jiao Tong University for red tide research.
For the disabled
China Mobile's Beijing branch has just donated prepaid mobile telephone cards valued at 40,000 yuan to disabled cell phone subscribers. The company also announced that it was offering free information about green channel or non-obstacle maintenance services for those customers.
Quake photo show
A photo exhibition on the Sichuan earthquake, organized by printer and imaging products manufacturer Epson and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), has just launched in Beijing. It presents what UNICEF has contributed to the emergency relief and post-disaster recovery in Sichuan and how local people rebuilt their homes.
Medical training
Tsinghua University and Pfizer China have launched the Tsinghua-Pfizer Continuing Medical Education and Training Program, aimed at providing healthcare professionals and strengthening the standardized construction of county-level hospitals in the underdeveloped regions of China. The program will provide free clinical skills training using leading-edge distance-learning technology and field teaching. It will be launched first in Yunnan, Guizhou and Sichuan provinces and Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region this year.
Greek ship owners
A group of Greek ship owners has donated more than $200,000 yuan for post-earthquake recovery in Sichuan, according to John Tzoannos, secretary-general of the Ministry of Mercantile Marine of Greece. Those ship businessmen said they would like to do more for reconstruction of the disaster-hit areas and further donation is under consideration.
