Social causes fair

The Social Organization Forum and Social Causes Fair is scheduled for Aug 12-14 in Beijing.

The event is co-organized by China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation, Narada Foundation and Chinese Promotion Council for Social Organizations and aims to exploit a localized development model of social organizations in China and facilitate communications between social organizations and donors.

Emergency relief

Red Cross societies at various levels in China have raised a total of 19.1 billion yuan in both cash and kinds by the end of last month for post-earthquake recovery, according to the Red Cross Society of China.

The money was mainly spent on emergency relief, reconstruction of residential communities, schools and hospitals, as well as infrastructure rebuilding.

Green team

Cisco and China's Tsinghua University joined hands to set up a laboratory for green technology at the end of last month, thanks to financial support from the Internet solution giant.

The laboratory, jointly led by Cisco and the Department of Electronic Engineering at Tsinghua University, will focus on developing network-based smart urbanization technology and solutions in support of China's strategy for the green development of the economy, energy saving, and emission reduction.

Shenzhen job fair

A job fair was held by 30 Shenzhen-based companies recently in quake-devastated Zhouqu County, Gansu, designed to offer more than 18,000 jobs to help with the reconstruction of the region. The Shenzhen companies included State-owned enterprises, overseas firms and private companies. Jobs offered covered technician, security, housekeeping, retail and food staff.

CCB workers chip in

China Construction Bank (CCB) has donated 3.6 million yuan to set up a Hope School in Sichuan, the largest single amount of money for a Hope School in China. The primary school is located in Mianyang, a city seriously damaged by the May 12 earthquake. The money comes from individual donations from CCB's employees around the nation.
