China's manufacturing expanded for a second month, adding to signs of a recovery in the world's third-biggest economy. The Purchasing Manager's Index rose to a seasonally adjusted 53.5 in April from 52.4 in March, the Federation of Logistics and Purchasing said Friday in Beijing in a statement. A reading above 50 indicates an expansion.

The Chinese government said last Wednesday it would allow foreign companies to list on the Shanghai Stock Exchange and develop a greater variety of financial derivatives, elaborating on plans to make Shanghai an international financial and shipping centre by 2020.

China Zhongwang Holdings Ltd, the country's largest maker of extruded aluminum products by capacity, raised HK$9.8 billion ($1.26 billion) as it priced the world's largest initial public offering in nine months toward the low end of an offering range, sources close to the sale said on Thursday.

The Chilean government held an initiation ceremony last Thursday for the Shanghai World Expo in 2010 and said it would soon unveil the design of its national pavilion.
