"Three-good" spirit, which means having the virtues of good morals, hard study and sporting excellence, was the honor system for pupils in China. Now, it has become the principle for Nestle China in organizing its donated a school building for the earthquake-stricken Sichuan province.
Less than one year after the May 12 earthquake, Nestle China officially established a new school building in Zhuwa primary school in Pixian county of Sichuan province.
In accordance with the target for encouraging more "three-good" students in Zhuwa school, Nestle China's employees also donated a "Nestle Cares for Children Library" with over 10,000 books, some medical equipment, and announced a "Nestle Scholarship for Three-Good Students".
As a leading company in the field of nutrition, health and wellness, caring for children was Nestle's key responsibility, said Patrice Bula, chairman and CEO of Nestle China.
Besides donating a school building and some infrastructure to support pupils' basic studies, Nestle also encouraged and organized all its employees to better deliver care to local students. "That is the reason we donated books and some physical care equipments to them," an employee from Nestle China told China Business Weekly.
"After doing business in China's market for over 30 years, we have learned that to seek successful and long-term business in the country, we must create values not only for our shareholders and employees, but also for the community at large," said Bula.
According to Bula, the classroom in Zhuwa primary school was a model for fulfilling its corporate social responsibility, and promoting a brighter future for students in the earthquake-stricken areas.
Earlier, Nestle China and its employees had contributed a total of 10 million yuan in money and products to students in Sichuan province.
