Anti-cancer call

The Chinese Red Cross Foundation (CRCF) has joined forces with Beijing Foreign Enterprise Human Resources Service Co Ltd (FESCO) and Chinalife Insurance Co Ltd to call on all foreign companies in China to take part in the "Warm China" program - an anti-cancer campaign launched by CRCF.

"Warm China", which has been running for three years, provides free treatment to over 5,000 poverty-stricken cancer patients.

Its sustainable development needs further financial support, especially donations from corporate citizens, according to Wang Rupeng, secretary-general of CRCF.

Book donation scheme

Nestl China recently launched the "Nestl Cares for Children Library" project, encouraging every employee to donate a book to children in earthquake-stricken Sichuan province.

So far, nearly 10,000 children's books have been delivered to Sichuan. Most of the books were contributed to Zhuwa Primary School in Pixian county, which is supported by Nestl.

Since the devastating May 12 quake, Nestl (China) has made donations worth more than 10 million yuan, supporting the reconstruction of schools in the disaster area.

Cao's generous offer

Industrial heavyweight Cao Dewang has pledged to use 70 percent of his company's stocks to establish a charitable foundation.

Cao, ranked by Forbes as the 53rd richest man in China in 2008, is chairman of Fuyao Glass Industry Group, a windshield provider for world-renowned automakers including Volvo, Audi and Bentley.

Based on its current market value, 70 percent of the firm's total stock is worth around 4.3 billion yuan. If Cao follows through on his pledge, he will become the most generous philanthropist in China.

Environment awards

The results of the 2008 WildAid and Tencent Public Welfare and Charity Foundation Advertisement Creative Competition were recently announced.

The event, which was intended to raise awareness across China and inspire enthusiasm for environmental protection among the younger generation, received 2,160 entries from all over the world.
