Responsibility report
The Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business (CKGSB) has made its social responsibility report public for the first time.
As the first social responsibility report released by a mainland business school, CKGSB's 2008 Social Responsibility Report gave an interpretation of the school's understanding of social responsibility and detailed the school's social responsibility achievements in last year.
The report showed that CKGSB's faculties and students donated nearly 5 million yuan to the victims of the Sichuan earthquake, and its alumni donated another 430 million yuan for the earthquake relief, accounting for 7 percent of the total donation made by Chinese enterprises.
Model kindergarten
The Swiss Community Reconstruction in Sichuan - School & Housing Sponsorship Project and the Sichuan Chongzhou municipal government signed a cooperation agreement recently on the reconstruction of the central kindergarten in Longxing township of Chongzhou city in Sichuan.
It will be reconstructed as a model kindergarten and completed in the fall of 2009 to hold 300 children. The design by a Swiss architecture office is focusing on modern classrooms, indoor and outdoor play spaces and combines the qualities of a Swiss town atmosphere with traditional Chinese palaces in an eco-friendly building.
Charity supermarket
A charity supermarket was set up recently in Chongqing, based on individual donations and supplies from goods manufacturers.
Designed for people living on or below the poverty level, the supermarket sells daily necessities such as rice, oil, salt, and monosodium glutamate at much lower prices than equivalent items sold in other supermarkets.
The charity supermarket receives love coupons instead of cash. It says that the supermarket will give away love coupons with a face value of 50 yuan each month to more than 3,000 poor people in the city. People can come to the supermarket to exchange the love coupons for goods.
