Nokia entrepreneur winners
The 2008 Nokia Young Entrepreneur Education Plan contest was concluded recently, with six university teams winning the top award and each getting 50,000 yuan in startup funds. The contest aims at inspiring, encouraging and supporting university students to initiate business startups.
It was the second annually nationwide event sponsored by Nokia (China) Investment Co Ltd, in cooperation with the All-China Youth Federation and the China Guanghua Foundation.
Spanish charity for Sichuan
Spain-based AFFIRMA Business Centers, an office rental service provider, has just signed a contract with the Sichuan provincial government to build a primary school in earthquake-damaged Luojiang county, the northern part of the province.
With a donation from the Spanish company, the 300-plus children at the school will have a library, computer classroom and sports faculties. In addition, Spanish language and culture courses will be provided for children.
Red Cross quake exhibit
"The Strength of Humanity" - the Chinese Red Cross in Wenchuan Earthquake Photography Exhibit, which began on December 15 presents Chinese people and Red Cross workers doing May 12 quake relief work. An online version of the exhibition is at sina.com.cn.
The Red Cross Society of China and Philanthropic Enterprises Union of the Chinese Red Cross are sponsoring the exhibit. It will last six months.
Eaton China green report
The US industrial conglomerate Eaton and China WTO Tribune magazine recently held a seminar on sustainable development in Beijing. Eaton China released its first sustainable development report in the country at the seminar.
Sustainable development has become an important factor in the company's success in China. Eaton will continuously provide the country with its green technologies to help China achieve its goals in energy conservation and environmental protection, Zhou Tao, president of Eaton China said.
WWF, Canon teach children
WWF (World Wildlife Fund) and Canon China have opened a website - www.delightearth.org - focusing on providing environmental education to Chinese children.
With several interactive games, the website teaches children some basic environmental facts and encourages their awareness of ecological protection.
