Green cooperation
P&G and Wal-Mart have just joined hands to promote environmental protection in Wal-Mart's supermarkets in China and neighboring communities.
P&G will sponsor to deliver related education materials to consumers and residents, and the world No 1 chain retailer is to further improve green conditions in its outlets.
The two partners say the move is not only their social responsibility but also conducive to their sustainable development in China.
Don't drink and drive
Belgian brewer InBev Group is working with Shanghai traffic police to promote safe driving.
Statistics show that in 2007 over 50 percent of the traffic accidents in Shanghai were related to drunk driving.
Peking prof honored
Ford Motor China Ltd has announced the 2008 Ford Environmental Protection Award.
The prize went to Pan Wenshi, a professor with Peking University, for his 25 years of research on endangered species. A total of 21 nongovernmental individuals and groups also received 1.5 million yuan for their efforts to better protect the environment.
First begun in 1983 and sponsored in China since 2000, the Ford award has financed 155 individuals and groups to enhance their green dreams for a Chinese mainland.
Torch bearers help poor
About 100 Beijing Olympic torch bearers have pledged to help "Class Hongzhi," a group of academically excellent students from poor families.
The campaign was organized by the Torch Bearer Alliance (TBA), the first public welfare organization initiated by Olympic torch bearers, in conjunction with the Beijing Youth Development Foundation and the Beijing Donation Center of Project Hope.
CSR honors for FedEx, Orbis
The American Chamber of Commerce (Amcham) in Shanghai has honored FedEx and Orbis as models of higher corporate social responsibility (CSR) standards in China.
They were honored for their work in promoting education and training for the treatment of preventable blindness in China. The overall CSR award for small and medium businesses went to PMI Shanghai International Trading for its efforts in compliance, auditing, and environmental initiatives. The CSR award for large multinationals was Intel but included finalists Cargill, Johnson & Johnson, KPMG, Nike, and Timken.
