PICC issues CSR report

The People's Insurance Company of China (PICC) has released its first corporate social responsibility report summarizing the accomplishments the State-owned insurer has made in recent years.

In recent years, PICC has taken part in social management and medical security systems construction. It has also assisted the government in carrying out traffic safety and public security management. It was the insurance partner of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and is also the global partner of the Shanghai World Expo.

The company announced that it will issue an annual CSR report beginning this year.

Fighting AIDS in Chongqing

The MAC AIDS Fund, a non-governmental organization devoted to AIDS prevention, has initiated an anti-AIDS campaign in Beibei district of Chongqing. Officials from the United Nations Children's Fund and Ambassadors of Love shared knowledge about AIDS with young migrant workers and dropout teenagers here.

By the end of 2007, the number of HIV-infected people in Beibei has reached 238 since the first case was detected in 1999. As most young migrant workers and dropouts know little about AIDS, they don't know how to protect themselves. The Beibei project is a part of MAC support for a global initiative "Unite For Children, Unite Against AIDS", which was launched in China in 2006.

Mercedes-Benz aids pandas

A group of over 100 Mercedes-Benz dealers, customers and employees from all across China visited the homeland of the pandas in Ya'an, Sichuan province, recently to see how MB's Green Legacy Program has helped preserve the world's largest giant panda sanctuaries.

The program, which was begun last September, is intended to protect World Natural Heritage Sites in China, and the Ya'an panda reservation is a part of it.
