Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu milestones

1917: Shanghai office opens, becoming the first foreign accounting organization to establish a presence in the city.

1972: Hong Kong presence.

1989: Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu results from a merger between Deloitte Haskins & Sells International and Touche Ross International, which combined with the premier Japanese audit firm Tohmatsu Awoki & Sanwa in 1975.

1991: Spicer & Oppenheim joins the firm's international network in Hong Kong SAR and the UK.

Dec 1992: Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Certified public Accountants Ltd established in Shanghai.

1997: Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu merges with the largest Chinese firm of Certified Public Accountants in Hong Kong SAR, Kwan Wong Tan and Fong.

June 1998: Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Certified public Accountants Ltd Beijing Branch established.

June 1, 2004: A five year China growth strategy is unveiled that includes US$150 million invested in China to grow staff by 400 percent, and revenue four to five fold. Moreover, the firm unveils its new global brand in China and announces its move in Beijing to Oriental Plaza.

Jun 1, 2005: The firm has its first ever merger in the Chinese mainland with Beijing Pan-China CPA Ltd.

Sept 1, 2005: The company merges with Pan-China Schinda, one of the top CPA firms in China. This is the second merger for Deloitte in the mainland.

Today: The company has 7,000 people in ten offices including Beijing, Dalian, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Macao, Nanjing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Suzhou and Tianjin.
