The five major industries that Chongqing municipal government will give priority to developing during the 2008-2012 period are:
Energy: It will annually generate revenue worth 145 billion yuan by 2012. The Germany-based BASF natural gas project whose accumulative investment will be $4.5 billion is coming into operation this year, with the annual sales of 50 billion yuan. Construction of the 10-million-ton oil refinery project by China National Petroleum Corporation and the 1-million-ton ethylene project will be under development in 2009 and the two will bring in annual sales of 50 billion yuan.
The 3 million-ton goal-gasification-methanol project and its subsidiary projects will be launched and the business could be translated into revenue of 30 million yuan.
Motorcycle and auto: Its annual revenue will grow from 177 billion yuan in 2007 into 360 billion yuan in 2012, after the launch of expansion projects from auto companies such as Chang'an Ford Automobile Co Ltd and Chongqing Chang'an Automobile Co Ltd and of new production lines of motorcycle makers such as Lifan Group and Zongshen Motor.
Equipment manufacturing: Construction of ship and rail track manufacturing factories, and wind-powered station equipment is planned. And the industry is projected to create sales of 220 billion yuan per year.
Material: Annual revenue from the sector is expected to be 200 billion yuan in 2012 when the productive capacities of steel manufacturing and aluminum and silicon processing are expanded.
IT: By 2012, its annual sales revenue will hit 200 billion yuan, mainly coming from businesses of chips, software and household appliances.
With HP, IBM, Oracle and Chinese Academy of Sciences announced to set up software outsourcing centers, research and development centers and talent training centers, the software business will generate total sales of 30 billion yuan a year.
By 2012, appliance makers including Haier, Gree and Changhong will either expand or set up new businesses in Chongqing, which helps the city rake in at least 40 billion yuan in revenue.
