Cargill helps rebuild schools
Cargill (China) businesses and corporate headquarters donated 200,000 yuan to the China Children and Teenager's Fund to help rebuild schools in Hunan province that were damaged by the heavy snowstorms and winter weather that hit central and southern China in early February.
The donation will help children resume their education in safe environments and build new weather-resistant schools. As well, Cargill's employees in Beijing donated warm clothes and blankets.
GeneScience donation
GeneScience Pharmaceuticals Co Ltd has signed a contract with the China's Red Cross Foundation to donate medicine valued at 1 million each year for five years to support the foundation's Angel Program that provides free medical care for impoverished children.
GenSci, a domestic biopharmaceutical company, develops, manufactures and markets therapeutic protein products and biological generics.
Ikea, Tetra Pak honored
Ikea and Tetra Pak were recently honored by the international non-governmental organization World Wildlife Fund (WWF) for their contributions to conservation.
An Outstanding Conservation Partner 2007 award was presented to Ikea for the company's contributions over the past six years to WWF's forest protection and management project.
Tetra Pak China received a Merit Conservation Supporter award in recognition of its engagement over the past four years in WWF's efforts in sustainable forest management.
Charity hospital selected
Chinese Liberation Army Beijing Hospital was authorized as the hospital for two philanthropic programs - Little Angel Fund and Angel Sunshine Project - that provide care for leukemia patients and free surgery to correct congenital heart defects in children.
The hospital was selected due to its technological and professional resources to treat the two afflictions.
'Health Train' launched
Free surgery in the past two months have enabled 816 people to receive cataract operations on a train in Dali Bai autonomous prefecture in Yunnan province.
The Health Train initiative is funded by donations from Hong Kong residents.
More Citi China funding
Citi China has recently given 485,000 yuan to the Red Cross Society of China as a follow-up to its donation of 500,000 yuan made earlier in February to support disaster relief.
The latest donation came directly from Citi employees on the mainland, Hong Kong and Singapore.
