'Warm China' healthcare
The Chinese Red Cross Foundation recently authorized another 30 hospitals for the Warm China program that offers free medical treatment for poverty-stricken tumor patients, bringing the number of approved hospitals to 60.
Requirements for hospitals are that they have advanced facilities and professional talent for treating tumors and must commit to providing free daily in-hospital care and recovery training services for poor patients.
Canon donates to schools
Canon China officially began its "Help Us Help" 2008 philanthropic program last week.
The company will install cameras, printers and copy machines in Canon Hope Schools to put students in touch with high technology and provide professional training for teachers.
The company began its donations to the China Youth Development Foundation in 2005 to offer support for Project Hope, a program that builds schools in China's poor areas.
Physical therapy
Domestic healthcare products manufacturer Guangdong Junfeng Industry Group has started a nationwide campaign to donate their physical therapy machines to elderly people.
The campaign has to date included 42 cities in more than 10 municipalities, provinces and autonomous regions. Junfeng recently invited beneficiary senior citizens to Beijing to visit the Olympic venues and share their healthcare stories.
Low-income housing study
A China-UK comparative study on housing provision to low-income urban residents, the result of a partnership between the British Council and China Vanke Co, has been released and presented to the Ministry of Construction.
The study is also the result of Horn Action II, the country's first non-profit research project on housing for low-income citizens.
Tibetan foundation landmark
The Tibetan Development Support Foundation celebrated its 20th anniversary at the end of last year in Beijing.
Established in 1987, the foundation has raised more than 100 million yuan to support over 460 philanthropic projects, including poverty alleviation, rural education, medical care and natural disaster relief.
According to the foundation, its cooperation with foreign charities from the United States, European nations and Southeast Asian countries has greatly benefited local people.
