The Asia Electronics Exhibition opened at the Shanghai New International Expo Center on Wednesday to showcase advanced products and technology.

Products ranging from family entertainment to personal computers, network articles, instruments and auto parts, were on display.

The three-day event is the largest of its kind in Asia and is co-sponsored by the five biggest exhibition bodies from the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan and South Korea.

"It is a platform for exchanges between exhibitors and visitors as well as becoming a weather vane of the Asian electronics market," said Di Yunzhu, general manager of the China Electronic Exhibition and Information Communication Co Ltd.

Each of the five organizers set up a pavilion at the show.

Yan Suqiu, deputy secretary general of the Taiwan Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers' Association, believed that the show will act as a stimulus to trade for Asia.

She said Taiwan's businesses received orders worth $2.17 million at last year's show, which rose to $13.65 million after the show.

"The current show will definitely present a good opportunity for them to expand business on the mainland market," Yan said.

China created sales of 6.71 trillion yuan ($1.1 trillion) in the electronics manufacturing industry between January and September this year, up 11.2 percent over the same period last year, said Di.

It will witness fast growth in this field for the next several years, he said, citing Shandong as an example. Shandong is expected to generate sales of 1.45 trillion yuan in the electronics manufacturing industry in 2015.

Shanghai will be able to manufacture 300 billion yuan worth of IT products in 2015, while Jiangsu province will generate 3.7 trillion yuan.
