Chen Shangyi (second from L), 88 years old, and his 87-year-old wife Zhang Lanying (R) are pictured with their adopted children at home in Dingxi, Northwest China's Gansu province on Aug 10, 2011. In the past 20 years, the couple has adopted 45 abandoned children and raised them with a minimum allowance from the government and garbage collecting. Chen said they once had 12 kids in the house, and the family could only afford noodles for each meal. The old couple now has six adopted children still living at home. Even though some families told Chen they wanted to adopt some of the children, Chen refused, saying, "I love them so much and I don't want any of them to leave me, and they don’t want that, either."
