Road rules need to be enforced

(China Daily) Updated: 2015-05-06 07:49

A woman driver on an expressway made rapid lane changes that almost caused an accident on Sunday. A male driver, whose car she almost hit, chased her to a stop, dragged her out of the car and beat her. Comments:

Both the male and the female drivers were obviously inflicted with the common disease of road rage. Road rage seems to be a psychological disease, but it can't be cured by doctors, it can only be cured by the law. Only when the traffic police strictly enforce the law and punish any drivers who act illegally will such incidents be prevented.

Beijing Youth Daily, May 5

Some blame the female driver for driving illegally first, but that does not mean the male driver has the right to beat her. Under no circumstances should a person be allowed to attack another. Both the female and male drivers should be held accountable for their acts, the former for illegal driving, the latter for an assault.

Beijing News, May 5

It is absurd that many have praised the male driver only because the woman driver drove illegally first. Are they sure that the male driver, who obviously believes violence is the answer in any situation, will drive better? If you do not want to turn the road into a Hobbes' forest where the strongest wins, please do not applaud violence.

China Youth Daily, May 5

It is time to improve the training for new drivers and set a higher threshold for them to obtain licenses. The current driving test emphasizes skills. We call for the authorities to pay more attention to good driving habits and refuse to give license to those who threaten road safety with nasty and illegal behavior on the road.
