Nation to boost online media

China will boost the development of online media by encouraging eligible websites to go public and create new mainstream media institutions and groups by 2020, according to a blueprint made public on Sunday. Issued by the general offices of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the State Council, China's Cabinet, the outline for the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-20) on cultural development and reform promotes a modern communication system.

5 detained in case of polluted pools

Five suspects thought to be responsible for polluted dump sites in Tianjin's Jinghai district, the largest of which covers 15,000 square meters, were detained on Saturday, the municipal government announced on Sunday. The five were detained after a local environmental watchdog investigated links to a local sewage treatment plant and passed on information to the police, the government said.

Stranded dolphin to be returned to sea

A beached rough-toothed dolphin has been rescued and will soon be released back into the sea, a nature reserve said on Saturday. Police received reports of the rare dolphin being stranded along Heisha Bay in Jiangmen on Wednesday, and called the Pearl River Estuary Chinese White Dolphin National Nature Reserve for help. The rough-toothed dolphin is a second-class protected species in China.
