Kunming Shipbuilding Equipment Co (KSEC) is a subsidiary of China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation, KSEC’s controlling shareholder. KSEC is a large Stated-owned enterprise with import-export operation rights. It combines optics, mechanics, electronics and information technology and integrates science and technology, industry and trade.

By the end of 2000, KSEC’s total and net assets were valued at 1.49 billion yuan and 560 million yuan, respectively. Its employees exceeded 7,000, among which there were over 2,400 technical personnel and over 1,200 engineers. KSEC Industrial Zone spans an area of around 67 hectares, and a building area of around 500,000 square meters. It has more than 3,000 machines and has passed the ISO 9001 quality authentication.

The first national-level enterprise technology center established by KSEC in 1994 was designated as a high-tech enterprise of Yunnan province. It also boasts a post-doctorate workstation and an engineering graduate training base.

KSEC has become the most important development and production base for tobacco machinery and the most important research and production corporation group for automatic logistics systems in China.
