Jinning county, in the middle of Yunnan, is embraced by green hills on three sides. It is 40 kilometers away from Kunming. The county covers an area of 1,231 square kilometers, and has a population of 291,000 (in 2012).
Its GDP reached 9.6 billion yuan ($1.56 billion) in 2013, and the general financial revenue achieved 2.08 billion yuan. In 2013, it developed into one of the top 100 counties in the west of China. In addition, it has won the title of advanced county in county economy development in Yunnan for four years in a row. In 2012, it ranked seventh among all Yunnan's counties.
Jinning is the birthplace of the Dian culture, and is one of the four places with the largest phosphorus reserves in the world.
