Panlong district takes its name from the Panlong River, passing through from north to south. It had a population of 810,000 in 2010 and an area of 887 square kilometers. The annual average temperature is 14.9 C and the annual average precipitation is 1,001 mm.
Its GDP in the first quarter of 2014 reached 10.2 billion yuan ($1.67 billion), increasing 8.6 percent over the previous year. The primary industries, including farming, forestry, animal husbandry, fishery and their services, achieved up to 74 million yuan added value, a growth of 0.1 percent than a year earlier; the secondary industries, including mining, manufacturing, production and supply of electric power, gas and water, achieved up to 0.25 billion yuan added value, a decrease of 5.3 percent from a year earlier; and the tertiary industry, or the service industry, achieved up to 0.77 billion yuan added value, a growth of 13.8 percent than 2013.
