Kunming Dianchi Lake is among the 12 national tourism resorts in China approved by the State Council in 1992 and the only one located in an inland province. At present, it covers an area of 47.5 square kilometers, including Haigeng District with 22.5 square kilometers and Dayu District with 25 square kilometers, and has a total population of 110,000.

Located in the southwest of Kunming city, Haigeng District is the core area of the Dianchi Lake ecotourism circle. The Dianchi Lake tourism resort differentiates itself from other national level tourism resorts as it allows tourists to experience the folk customs of 25 minorities, sports training on the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau and leisure vacation activities for fitness, which have become two brand features of the resort. The area boasts a pleasant environment, fresh air, convenient transportation and desirable living conditions, making it a must-see and first-choice destination for domestic and international tourists to Yunnan.

Located in the southwest of Chenggong District, Dayu District is adjacent to the east coast of Dianchi Lake, with a lake shoreline of 14.7 km, 6 km away from the municipal administrative center. It has built an 18-hole golf course, five main highways, a 110kV transformer substation, a sewage interception project in the main canal along the east coast of Dianchi Lake, a sewage and rain disposal factory in the Laoyu River, and supporting pipe network construction projects. Centering on the tourist industry, the area gives priority to the development of high-end tourism, service and innovative industries and is committed to becoming a comprehensive tourism area at the world-class ecological level.
