Colombian Police seize 13 tons of drugs

BOGOTA - The Colombian Police seized around 5.5 tons of cocaine, 7.5 tons of marijuana and 20 kilograms of heroin in weekend operations against organized crime gangs around the country, the authorities said on Sunday.

The operations took place in Colombia's northern department of La Guajira, southwestern departments of Cauca and Valle del Cauca, eastern department of Casanare, and northeastern department of Norte de Santander.

Anti-Narcotics Police Director Gen. Luis Perez told a press conference that the drugs belonged to the drug trafficker gangs of "Los Rastrojos" and "Los Urabenos" and to the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia.

The drugs were ready for shipment to Central America, from where it would be sold and distributed to the United States, Perez said.

Two people were arrested, he added.
