BOGOTA - Colombia, the United States and Panama netted 1.9 tons of cocaine in two joint anti-drug operations in the Caribbean, the Colombian navy said on Monday.

"The Panamanian National Aeronaval Service intercepted a speed boat in Panama's San Blas Islands area on Saturday, with information provided by the Colombian navy," the navy said in a statement.

The speed boat had departed from Colombia's Uraba Gulf loaded with 1,362 kg of cocaine, but the crew abandoned both the vessel and the shipment on the beach and escaped.

On Sunday, the US Coast Guard seized 568 kg of cocaine that had be shipped from Colombia to Central America.

Two Colombians were arrested in the operation, which took place along the Costa Rica-Panama border.

"The Colombian Navy will continue to undertake operations with other countries against maritime crimes," the navy added.
