In summer, it’s all about sun, sea and sand, while in winter, when the weather gets frosty and cold, people tend to get bored. But being active in winter is an important part of enjoying life! Though it might not sound as glamorous as summer fun.. .snow and ski-ing…well, some say it’s cool.

To guarantee a winter wonderland, there are plenty of ski resorts that have invested in snow-making systems. Nanshan Ski Village is located near Miyun County, a 30 minute drive on JingCheng Expressway from Beijing. It has more than 7000 sets of skiing equipment and 7,200 sq-metre of ski-runs. You might not shusss into David Beckham there - but it’s great fun, for sure!

If you are a good skier and you’ve already polished your goggles, shined your slops, you want to brush up your skills or simply are eager to show off, then you have the most challenging advanced trails in which to perform, jump, slide, have a snow blast, or even somersault. Bring it on.

If you’ve never been skiing before, or you are just starting, you can hit the beginner’s trail, with everyone around you no better than yourself. Embarrassment? What embarrassment!

But it doesn’t matter what level you are, safety is always the most important! For beginners, it’s essential to get started with appropriate gear and lessons, and to know the basics of navigating your way up and down.

Well for advanced skiers, I think just two words would do, Be careful!

Skiing is a relatively new pastime in China, Because of a ski resort’s need for millions of dollars of investment and high maintenance fees, it puts off investors from taking on such a project. However in recent years, with China’s skier population multiplying, the sport has started to blossom here. It seems the nation is longing for this sport.

China’s ski industry maybe one step behind, but it has to start somewhere. And if Nanshan ski resort is anything to go by, the future of the sport in China will be very bright.

So don’t get left out in the cold, zip up your coat, tie up your boots and get ready for the ski season! And by the way, break a leg!
