In recent years, China has paid great attention to the development of the marine economy. It authorized the establishment of the Guangdong marine economy comprehensive experimental area in 2011 and put forward the idea of building the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road in 2013. The 2014 COEE is a good opportunity to demonstrate the achievements of the Chinese ocean industry and a positive exploration of constructing an exchange and cooperative platform for the global maritime economy.

As a big coastal province, Guangdong pays great attention to the revival of the Maritime Silk Road. Hu Chunhua, secretary of Guangdong Provincial Party Committee, said that Guangdong should grasp the strategic opportunity of the central government building the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road and further strengthen the economic and trade cooperation with ASEAN countries, South Asia, the Middle East and African areas.

Zhanjiang, as the earliest ancient port with a written history of the Maritime Silk Road, has become an important coastal city in China and has been endowed with a new mission in the country’s opening up.
