Does second-hand have to mean second-best?

I come from a middle-class family and often wore hand-me-downs from my older brother. We never went to the Salvation Army Thrift Store to shop. However, I have no problem going to the Thrift Store to buy things. Some of the clothing is as good as new. We all would prefer wearing designer or brand name clothing. Going to work or school and being labeled as worst dressed isn't the end of the world, but if you’re trying to impress someone, it may be.
