Zhou Qiang, the new Chief Justice of China, urged courts to learn more about interacting with the media. A good move in itself, but the courts need to do more, says an article in the Economic Observer (excerpts below).

Newspapers need to write stories for readers, instead of leaders, so they keep on asking more and refuse to copy, like the old days, what they are told to.

The courts have to face a series of challenges from almost all sections of society.

The new Chief Justice is right in urging courts to learn more about interacting with the media.

But the courts need to do more: understanding public concerns, raising transparency, and, most important of all, doing a better job in passing judgment will mean that the public will understand the process better.
