Lack of confidence aggravates misjudgment

Japan Self-Defense Force troops joined the US Marine Corps’ military exercises on the US islands of Guam and Tinian on Aug 21. One Japanese military official is quoted as saying this military drill is to improve Japanese troops’ ability to get back the Diaoyu Islands after the Chinese army occupies the islands.

Japan is trying to get support from the US on the Diaoyu Islands dispute. The US also misjudges the situation and shows some “concerns” to Japan at the wrong time. Both countries underestimate China’s resolve to defend its sovereignty.

It is obviously a “waste card”. But Japan and the US are still playing it so seriously. Their lack of confidence is evident.

China will not let this outside disturbance affect its development and stability. That’s not to say that China will ignore the hostilities from the outside world, especially when these hostilities are targeted at China’s core national interests.
