The last mile is more difficult

One research report issued recently has stirred national debate because the researchers find China has accomplished 62 percent of its revival mission since 2010, says an article in China Business News. Excerpts:

No matter how unexpected the conclusion is, the debate suggests there is still no consensus on how much China has accomplished its mission of revival, if the revival can even be measured quantitatively.

The researchers have their own research framework and index system to show that their finding is rational. The question is whether the framework and system are rational enough for this difficult and controversial project, which was unknown until its finding was issued.

But the debate caused by this report on a wide range of issues — including rule of law, social fairness and justice, education and medical care reform and environmental pollution — at least provides decision-makers and researchers with an opportunity to see the difference between their beliefs and the public’s on China's development, and China still a long way to go.

If the researchers go a little further to point out that the last 38 percent of the mission may be more difficult than the already accomplished 62 percent, their finding may make more sense.
