Criticism is quite common nowadays, especially online. With a micro blog you can criticize anything you want. However, there are too many irrational voices that have nothing constructive to say, says an article in People's Daily. Excerpts:
As China is going through a transition period it is natural there will be enormous problems. But will irrational criticism help solve these problems? Of course not.
Rational criticism means facing up to the facts.
For example, we should recognize that Chinese soccer lags far behind other countries and will only progress step by step.
Furthermore, rational criticism should be beyond one's own interests. A coin has two sides; different people will have different opinions about the same event.
However, when we criticize something, we should ignore our own interests and view the whole picture, otherwise, we will not be able to realize progress in our society.
Finally, rational criticism should seek solutions instead of just highlighting the problems, which means we should be more constructive. Some issues in our society, such as the high housing prices, conflicts between doctors and patients, and the college entrance examination system, are all long-term issues.
So rational criticism should analyze what is creating the problems and solve the problems step by step.
Once rational criticism becomes a core value, it can boost the development of society in a meaningful way.
