Comment on "Alternative ID to passports"(China Daily, June 1)

I agree with the letter published on June 1. There should be an alternate ID to passports. This can be easily done.

When a passport is lost or stolen it is difficult to get it replaced immediately.

I am an English teacher at a university in Shanghai Pudong and have been working there for two years. I have been fortunate not to lose my wallet.

I always carry a copy of my passport and work visa in my wallet.

If I lose my wallet it is no big deal, but if I lose my passport, it is not that simple.

I also taught English in South Korea for seven years, and during that time I lost my wallet twice.

I can afford to lose money, but it is a problem when you carry your passport and then lose it.

It would be an easy thing for the government to issue ID cards to foreigners, which would most certainly alleviate an annoying burden on expats.
