Rock, paper, dragonflies

Young artist Xuan Qing is holding her first solo show of rock color paintings at the Village South Art Salon in downtown Beijing.

Rock color painting, which applies mineral colors on paper, is an art genre that can be traced back to the Tang Dynasty (AD 618-907). The best existing examples are the brightly colored murals in the Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes in Gansu province, Xuan says.

The artist from Yanbian, Jilin province, hopes to inject new life into the genre. Her favorite subjects include lotus flowers, sunflowers and dragonflies.

10 am-6 pm, until April 30. Suite B1-512, Tower 5, Sanlitun Soho, 8 Gongti Beilu, Changyang district, Beijing. 010-8851-7710.
