A Xinjiang show

The largest show of its kind in 25 years of works created by artists from Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region is being held at the National Art Museum of China.

Co-organized by the Ministry of Culture, the regional government and the museum, the exhibition presents 135 paintings that were shortlisted from 2,120 entries, by 401 artists from more than 10 ethnic groups living in the region.

The artists have put their hearts and souls into their depictions of natural beauty and society in the remote region, where various ethnic groups have lived for centuries, museum director Fan Di'an says.

With unique skills, perspective and subjects, these works shape the idea of a Xinjiang painting school, he adds.

9 am-5 pm, until March 12. National Art Museum of China, 1 Wusi Dajie, Dongcheng district, Beijing. 010-6401-7076.
