The Manchu Qing Dynasty used to rule over the entirety of China, but where are the Manchu people in the 21st century? After centuries of contact with Han Chinese, Manchu culture seems to be fading from memory and only a handful of people can still even speak the Manchu language.

Filmmaker Evan Luchkow travels to Jilin province in Northeast China to discover what contemporary Manchu culture looks like against the backdrop of a rapidly modernizing China. While Manchu culture may be fading, it turns out it is also making a surprising resurgence in unexpected places! Manchu culture remains a powerful and persistent influence on the culture and trajectory of modern China.
