Art beat in April

The Adventure of 500 Cardboard Boxes is an eco-life exhibition at Shanghai World Financial Center. Organized by Eco- Nomy magazine, it presents and promotes environmentally friendly lifestyles from growing mushrooms in coffee grounds, to designing handbags and other accessories from used jeans, and a solar-powered rickshaw for family outings.

Slices of Memory

Art beat in April

Art Chengdu, an art expo at which 16 young artists explores what artists think and care about as China becomes a more consumerist society. The exhibition, Slices of Memory, focuses on trivial things ignored in daily life but interpreted

with a strong sense of individualism by these young artists, who have taken part in an artist project supported by Beautiful Asset Co and China International Culture Association. All the young artists, in their early 30s, care more about their own inner lives while trying to keep a close eye on broader society.

Cuba rolls into town

Art beat in April

Rolling, They Meet is the largest exhibition of contemporary art from Cuba in Asia. Altogether 112 projects from 94 artists are on display, including all the national award-winning artworks and masterpieces from the country's most outstanding contemporary artists. The photographs, visual-audio projects, paintings, installations and so on present a panoramic view of artistic life in Cuba over the past 50 years.
