How many attended the latest Beijing Sofar gig on Jan 11?

We received more than 130 applications within 10 days, and 77 attended the gig.

When will Beijing hold its own larger, ticketed Sofar event? And how would it be different?

We hope to see the first Sofar+ in China (very likely in Beijing) in summer. Sofar+ is on a larger scale, and it is more like a music festival rather than the living room-style gigs of normal Sofar events. We had two in London and one in Birmingham in 2013.

Beijing Sofar operates in cafes and other larger spaces. How do you maintain the intimate vibe of the Sofar tradition?

It is not easy to find a private living room with a capacity for more than 50 people in central Beijing, especially in the hutong area. So we normally go to cafes, book shops or other public places-preferably spaces that are compact, cozy and decorated in style. But we'd be very happy if someone would host Sofar in their home.

How can people get involved in Sofar if they want to host?

Very simple. Visit Sofarsounds.com and click on "play or host". For those who need help from someone who speaks Chinese, e-mail beijingso far@gmail.com. We will happily guide you through the whole process.
