A farmer in Fenghua, Zhejiang province, has donated 110,000 yuan ($17,700) from his pension for river pollution control, Modern Gold News reported on Thursday.

Luo Changyi, 67, a resident of the city's Chaijia'ao village, lives next to a river. For years, the river has been polluted by garbage thrown in by some residents and the village invested money in a pollution control project in 2012, but the result was poor.

Luo decided to donate his money as the village had no funds to improve the pollution control project, and the water has became clean again after the project was completed recently.
