China is considering upgrading immigration policies for skilled foreign nationals, a senior official in charge of foreign experts affairs revealed on Thursday.

The State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs will "speed up exploring and implementing skilled immigration" as a vital part of its legislation work in 2014, said Zhang Jianguo, head of the administration, at an annual meeting on attracting foreign experts in Beijing. However, he did not elaborate when and how any new visa policy would be carried out.

The administration will endeavor to headhunt talent globally who can help China achieve a green economy, better environmental governance, agricultural modernization and boost Chinese companies' branding worldwide.

As of 2013, China had attracted about 613,000 overseas professionals, more than 60 percent of whom worked longer than three months on the Chinese mainland.
