Six killed in suicide bomb attack in NE Nigeria: police

LAGOS - Nigeria's police in northeast state of Yobe on Sunday confirmed the killing of six persons in a suicide bomb attack on a church in Potiskum, a commercial town.

The death included the suicide bomber, Toyin Gbadegesin, the state police spokesperson told Xinhua, noting that a male suicide bomber detonated a bomb at Redeem Church at Jigawa area of Potiskum, killing five on the spot.

According to him, a female member who sustained injuries also died while receiving treatment in the hospital.

He said the injured are receiving treatment at various health facilities in the area.

Potiskum last suffered a twin suicide attack on June 15, in which 10 people were killed and several others injured.

Bomb attacks targeting civilians are one of the terror group's major tactics in causing panic and inflicting pressure on government.

A series of suicide blasts have been recorded in various parts of Nigeria this year. Boko Haram also extended its suicide bombings to neighboring Niger and Chad. Both countries, together with Nigeria and Cameroon, have formed a military task force to fight the group.
