Gabon's President Omar Bongo dies

LIBREVILLE - Gabonese Vice Prime Minister Geogette Koko announced Monday afternoon on the national television that President Omar Bongo Ondimba has passed away.

Meanwhile, according to news reaching here, Gabonese Prime Minister Jean eyeghe Ngong has also announced in Spain that President Bongo died Monday in a Spanish clinic.

Bongo has been at the helm of the country for 42 years since he came to power in 1967, the longest serving president in Africa.
