Is a gold medal all that matters?

Fastest, highest, strongest etc., are all good ways of determining who is best in an Olympic contest. However, there have always been better ways. Courage, determination, character, honor and magnanimity are much nearer to the true Olympic ideal.

It has been universally acknowledged that winning is not all in an Olympic contest. Those who pursue the "win at all cost" philosophy may very well win the "gold rush", only to "lose their own soul" in the end.
