North China sees breakthrough in clone technology

The world’s first cloned goat with superfine cashmere wool, has been born in Bayannur League, a city of North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region, marking new progress in the field of biotechnology, reports Xinhua.

The goat was born on a biological research base jointly launched by China’s leading research institutes and universities, including Kunming Institute of Zoology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Inner Mongolia Academy Agricultural & Animal Husbandry Sciences, and Inner Mongolia Agricultural University.

The Cashmere fiber from the goat is less than 13.8 micrometers thick, much finer than the average of 15.8 micrometers grown by the famous Erlang Mountain goats of Inner Mongolia autonomous region.
