Bu Xiaolin elected as Inner Mongolia’s new chairwoman

Bu Xiaolin was elected as the chairwoman of Inner Mongolia People’s Government and the vice secretary of the regional Party committee during the fifth session of the 12th Regional People’s Congress held in Hohhot on June 23.

Around 535 representatives attended the 12th people’s congress; 501 representatives attended the first plenary meeting of the fifth session of the 12th people’s congress; and 506 attended the second plenary meeting, according to the conference organizers.

Wang Jun, secretary of Inner Mongolian Autonomous Regional Party Committee, presided over the congress; Hang Guilin, executive chairman of the regional presidium, clarified the election regulations during the first plenary meeting; and Du Xin, another chairman of the regional presidium, briefly introduced the by-elections for the regional president and candidate deputies of the National People’s Congress (NPC). During the second plenary meeting, attendants voted Bu Xiaolin as the regional chairwoman.

After the election, Bu gave a speech saying that she would shoulder the responsibilities of the regional economic development and concentrate on raising living standards. With the trust of over 25 million people, she pledged to contribute herself to the prosperity of Inner Mongolia through a series of policies including expanding entry-exit trade, achieving a balance in economic development and environmental protection.

Bu expressed her view that under the Belt and Road Initiative, Inner Mongolia needs to seize the opportunity to enhance collaborations with adjacent countries and provinces, with the aim of becoming an economic hub for North China.

A brief biography of Bu Xiaolin

Bu Xiaolin, born in August 1958, is a Mongolian ethnic woman from Tumd Left Banner, Inner Mongolia autonomous region. She entered the workforce in June 1976 and joined the Communist Party of China (CPC) in June 1985.

In 1984, she graduated from the Law School of Peking University with a major in economic law, and then studied at the Law Department of Jilin University in 1998, receiving a doctorate in law. Later she entered the Party School of the Central Committee of the CPC for further education in 2000.

Through her government work, she has held various positions, including becoming the head of the regional legislative bureau, secretary of the CPC Alxa Banner committee, minister of the United Front Work Department of Inner Mongolia, and vice president of the regional government.
