In conjunction with the setting-up ceremony, an exhibition was held to showcase pieces of painting and calligraphy works created by artists from China, Russia, and Mongolia at the museum.

This art gallery collected over 200 works of art from nearly 50 calligraphers and painters in the three countries. Themed as “Harmony in Diversity”, the artwork broadened visitors’ horizons through displays of traditional techniques, historic backgrounds, and epoch features of China, Russia, and Mongolia, particularly those revealing the history of the Silk Road.

During the inauguration ceremony, Bao Guangcai, dean of the Pioneer College, told the crowd that under the implementation of China’s Belt and Road Initiative, the Grasslands Silk Road Painting and Calligraphy Institute aims to build a platform for artists along the road to exchange ideas, promote the Mongolian grasslands culture, as well as improve the art creation and research level at the college.

As a part of the ancient Silk Road, the Grasslands Silk Road refers to the commercial channels crossing the Mongolian grasslands to link Asia with Europe. It has played a crucial role in the development and prosperity of ancient China, and also built a bridge for cultural and economic communication between Asia and the west.

As one birthplace of the ancient road, Inner Mongolia has recently accelerated the economic collaboration and cultural dialogue with the countries along the route. And the Pioneer College of IMU has taken action for the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative by building the art institute and exhibition.
